Dear Valued Oakland Collection Center (OCC) Users,
As we continue our mission to provide exceptional services, optimal value and equitable treatment for all residents, we would like to remind you of the recent important changes to the OCC. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue navigate these changes together.
The former contract with Republic Services expired February 2025. The renewal cost had increased significantly–over 30%–pushing the OCC’s annual operating expenses to exceed $200,000. We sought an alternative quote from Waste Management, but their proposed pricing was even higher.
Several factors contributed to the rising costs, including:
- Increased costs per ton of garbage collected, as dictated by the Republic Services contract
- Non-resident usage of OCC services, such as borrowing cards or disposing of external garbage
To address these challenges while upholding our commitment to you, board members from each township collaborated to devise a plan aiming to make the OCC self-funded. This plan consists of the following:
- Property owners in Oakland, Swiss or Union townships who wish to use the OCC must purchase an OCC card with $50 worth of punches.
- Garbage bag fees are as follows:
- $1 for 13-gallon tall kitchen garbage bags
- $3 for 33-55-gallon large garbage bags
- Loose garbage is subject to the discretion of OCC employees
- $1 for 13-gallon tall kitchen garbage bags
- Additional fees for appliances, tires, mattresses and other items remain in effect.
To obtain a new OCC card, property owners need to send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the OCC Manager at PO Box 157, Danbury WI 54830, requesting the desired number of new cards ($50 per card). OCC card payments must be separated from other township payments. Checks will need to be made out to “Oakland Collection Center.”
By striving to make the OCC self-funded, we hope to have reduced the burden on each township’s General Fund and reallocated resources to other areas, such as road maintenance, thereby continuing to provide the best services and value to our residents. Your understanding and cooperation are essential to the continued success of this endeavor.
If property owners choose not to purchase OCC cards, alternative waste disposal options are available, such as:
- Home garbage pickup through private companies like Waste Management (currently ~$70/month)
- Allied Waste at the Midtown transfer station (currently $8/bag)
The new OCC process commenced on April 1, 2025. Please continue to present your OCC card on every visit to the facility.
